Vaulter Club athletes went to the Triton Invitational over the weekend with over eight athletes and three schools. While there, Vaulter Club took both Gold and Silver metals and even a backpack for the first-place winner.
Katie Rodriguez represented very well in the freshmen/sophomore division of the meet by earning the silver metal for Vista Murrieta High School. Even with a personal best of 10’6, a clearance of 9’6” at this invite put Katie in the ranks against some of the best in Southern California. Katie is remarkably close to getting many new personal records. She is a warrior and will be sneaking up behind all the top girls in her age group soon with some minor fixes to her vault that she is working on. Katie is definitely not someone to over look when it comes to many of these meets because, even as a sophomore, we believe she can and will come and surprise a lot of people with some amazing jumps in the very near future.
Taking the Gold and a fancy new backpack in the Varsity division of the Triton invite was freshman, Aspen Fears. Aspen was one of (if not the) youngest competitor to compete is the Triton Invite and fought her way to the top. This young athlete cleared 11’7” at Saturday’s meet and with a personal best of 12’, she is the number one freshman in the state. If the state of California decides to have State this year, this firecracker is well on her way to becoming the first freshman pole vaulter from Vista Murrieta to ever make it all of the way to State. With the freshman record broken by over a foot from her first meet, this kid has only 5 inches to go until she is the over-all school record holder.
Honorable mention goes to new-comer Tiger Bachmeier. After only two or three practices, this sophomore cleared 12’ a couple of times at his second practice and 11’3 at this meet. Although this didn’t put him in a placement position for the varsity section of this meet, he did get very tight to the pole and ended up spiking himself in the leg, leaving him with just a bit of a bloodied-up leg and massive potential.
