Notably, advancing to the finals in the girls’ pole vault required a height of 11-6, a rarity in CIF-SS history. Such a qualification height had been achieved only once before, in 2018. Contributing to this achievement were five girls from the Southwestern League, including Aspen Fears, the defending champion from Vista Murrieta.
Seniors Negro, Hansen, Rodriguez, Pepito, and junior Fears all cleared their respective qualifying heights in the pole vault to advance to the next round.
Paige Hansen had an exceptional performance at the CIFSS Finals held at Moorepark, becoming the Division Two Champion. She had an impressive personal record-breaking jump of 12’3″.
Aspen Fears, the reigning Division One Champion from 2022, proves her dominance yet again by clearing the bar at a height of 12’9″, securing the championship title once more.
Austin Pepito secures his spot in the CIF Masters meet and paves the way for his participation at Moorepark by successfully clearing the bar at 14’9″. This achievement allows him to advance further in his quest for the state championship.
Madisyn Negro secures her advancement to the next round with a successful vault of 12’9″.
Katie Rodriguez secures her advancement to the next round with a successful vault of 12’3″ and a new personal record.
The upcoming CIF Masters meet next week will bring together competitors from the Southern Section as they vie for top positions to advance to the state preliminaries. In the girls’ division, achieving a height of 12’3″ guarantees an automatic qualification to the state championships. For the boys, the auto-qualification height is set at 15’0. The top six athletes from both girls and boys categories, along with any automatic qualifiers, will move on to the next stage of the competition.
May 20, 2023.
Boys first with bar up at 11:30 am, and warm-ups starting at 10:45am
Girls competition will follow after the boys has finished.
