Alexandria Gray Places Second at MT. SAC with a PR Break 12’6″

Alexandria Gray placed 2nd (12’6″) at the MT.SAC Relays yesterday in the elite high school section. The United States best pole vaulter Rachel Baxter took the first place spot with a 14′ mark.  Gray became the second highest high school vaulter of the meet with a new PR to 12’6, breaking her high school record (Chaparral High School, Temecula, CA.) and the Inland Valley highest high school girl mark. The high school mark was held by Dana Jensen, from 2005, putting an end to the 12-year reign. Jensen eventually went on to San Diego State University and pole vaulter for the University.

Gray is 7 inches away from breaking the county record of 13’1″ held since 2013 by Gardenia Centanaro from Eastvale. As the season proceeds and the track meets become larger, Gray will have plenty of opportunities to complete her goals for the season.

Gray and her teammates have overcome many obstacles in a very short time while learning to pole vault. Many of the club athletes have only pole vaulted for a little over a year and they have many small things yet to learn. Putting all the pieces together will be quite the treat for this athlete, and when she does, we will be there to watch her land. Results
